American Medical Response And AAA Ambulance Service Sign Agreement

Gulfport and Hattiesburg - March 2001 - American Medical Response, who serves Harrison and Hancock counties, has reached an agreement with AAA Ambulance, located in Hattiesburg, to join their team of professionals in providing quality pre-hospital care to the residents along the Gulf Coast, especially those residing in the northern most areas of Harrison and Hancock Counties. AMR has been able to reach an agreement with AAA Ambulance to assist with medical calls located within northern Harrison and Hancock Counties. Thus in turn, allowing AMR to assist with calls in southern Stone County and parts of Pearl River County too. According to Steve Delahousey, AMR’s Director of Operations, “AAA Ambulance may have a unit closer to a call when our system is busy in the southern part of the county. This agreement also allows us, at AMR, to assist AAA with calls in Stone County should their system be busy.” Delahousey went on to say, “We are fortunate to have these resources available and this agreement also benefits the entire EMS System in the four county (Harrison, Hancock, Stone, and Pearl River). Illness and injury do not recognize geo-political boundaries, and by working together, neither will our ambulances. Wade Spruill, Director – AAA Ambulance says, “This agreement will benefit everyone who lives in southern Stone County and in part of Pearl River County as well. The closure of Stone County Hospital makes this agreement especially useful since patients in Stone County are usually transported to Gulfport or Hattiesburg. We have always had a great relationship with AMR and this further demonstrates our joint effort to provide the best pre-hospital care to those who live in our communities.” Spruill added, There are times when an accident on Highway 49 requires both services to respond with multiple units and now we have the availability of extra resources to maintain our systems while mitigating a large scale event.” In closing, Delahousey and Spruill agreed, “It’s often difficult to commit resources to rural area with sparse population and little call volume. This agreement will allow the residents in the rural parts of the counties we serve to receive the same level of care they have come to expect from their ambulance provider.”
